Winery Processor Wastewater Odors
Project Situation
A California winery processing facility discharged 3 – 4 million gallons of wastewater covering a 120 acre area one foot deep. The large amount of wastewater applied to the field over a short period of time created water penetration and odor problems.
Products/Technology Used
We were contacted to help enhance water penetration and minimize the potential for odor problems.
Optimizer Plus (Product O55250) was aerially applied to the field at the rate of 1-2 gallons per acre. When the area was dry enough, discing was conducted to help incorporate the Optimizer Plus, aerate the soil and improve future water penetration.
Results
Optimizer Plus virtually eliminated the odors from the standing wastewater in the field and improved water penetration. On-going wastewater treatment using the Optimizer Plus technology prior to field discharge was continued by metering the product into an upstream sump at a rate of 2 gallons Optimizer Plus to 100,000 – 120,000 gallons of wastewater. Good results were maintained using Optimizer Plus.
